Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union (ATGWU) Motion calling on the Dublin Council of Trade Unions (DCTU) to revert to having their annual May Day as normal On May Day, May 1ST this year (2004) was only thrown out by the narrowest of margins (11-10) at the DCTU Monthly General Delegates meeting last night (Tuesday the 13TH, unlucky for some, I.E. The DCTU).

The turnout was much smaller than normal due to the continuing difficulties with the postal service, and there were 2 delegates that I know, who would have voted for the ATGWU Motion had they have known of last night's DCTU meeting in advance, and this would have forced the DCTU into a very embarrassing climbdown. read full story / add a comment

Oh the irony of it all... after any demonstration the media and Garda "sources" usually trim a quarter off the top of the actual attendance, yet this time in the run up to Mayday they are keen to boost the number of potential protesters exponentially... read full story / add a comment

The May Day protests have attracted a media feeding frenzy and a series of threats of police repression. This hysteria is geared to intimidating people from joining the protest and justifying the repression of civil liberties.

We are asking people who can't come out at the weekend or don't feel safe doing so to help us out in some other way. There's a meeting this Sunday, and a list of possible actions below if you can't come to that.

If the May Day protests are criminalised this will not just affect us. It will further restrict the scope of peaceful protest within Ireland to what is acceptable to the powers that be. read full story / add a comment

The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union (ATGWU) have a motion down for next Tuesday night's Dublin Council of Trade Unions (DCTU) General Delegates Meeting calling on them to have their traditional May Day March, or to at least support the alternative May Day March organised by the Another Europe Is Possible (AEIP) mobilising by having their banner on the march and informing their members of it, in other words to reverse their outrageous decision to cancel their traditional annual May Day March. I think that it's really important to get as many sympathetic delegates as possible along on Tuesday night and that we should all speak out loudly and forcibly in favour of the ATGWU motion. I'm calling on anyone reading this who knows someone involved with the DCTU or Trade Unions generally to strongly encourage them to attend, and to participate in Tuesday night's meeting. read full story / add a comment
