The Attorney General for Northern Ireland John F Larkin QC had called for an end to inquires into the Troubles and the death of civilians. However, this is not the first time the so-called rebel has refused to support an inquiry into innocent deaths. I transcribe below two letters I got from him. This man wrote these letters - fully aware that the several solicitors in Belfast took who took on this case would do nothing - and the last one Norman Shannon sat on it until it became Statute Barred. In the afternoon of the 2 November, the peasant leader César García, president of the community association (Junta de Acción Comunal) of Cajon La Leona, was killed in cold blood by a shot to the head as he returned to his homestead with his wife and son [1]. García had become visible through his participation in the Environmental and Rural Committee of Cajamarca for the defence of life, water and food (Comité Ambiental y Campesino de Cajamarca por la Defensa de la Vida, el Agua y el Alimento), an organisation which has been leading the community´s struggle against the large-scale extractive project La Colosa. This open-cast mine has been denounced in Tolima because of the disastrous impact it would have on the community and the environment. The community of Tolima has expressed its rejection of the project through a series of massive demonstrations in defence of water and life, as well as through a popular consultation which took place in the municipality of Piedras on 28 July. On that occasion, 99.2% of the population rejected the mega-mine, with participation of approximately 60% of the electorate [2]. read full story / add a comment

The U.S. Supreme Court decided not to take the landmark debt case between Argentina and bondholders led by NML Capital, a hedge fund that buys the debt of countries in financial crisis. Argentina is expected to file a second petition in the coming months that the Supreme Court will review and decide again if it will hear the case. read full story / add a comment

The British and Irish governments are facing fresh demands for a new inquiry into their police and intelligence agencies including the involvement of the FBI in the withholding vital information on the Omagh bombing. Unfortunately, it appears that Ireland has become increasingly more interested in hanging onto the shirt tails of the US than ever before, allowing agents from that country to work within the boundaries of this ‘state’ without adequate clearance. For years, this so called ‘neutral state’ has continuously been abused by the covert activities of the British Security Services and now we have additional interference by the US, impinging here at will. The rendition flights at Shannon are one typical example, another case in point was the involvement of US agents in the McKevitt trial in 2003, where it emerged that MI5 and the FBI were running an informer within the jurisdiction for up to a decade. read full story / add a comment

Pat Rabbitte is the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources has walked away with a pension more than those working 30 years could save up for.. 4 years service in the dail,means pat rabbitte of labour will walk away with a staggering 150 k pension per year,at a low 5% rate of tax,and he had the cheek to call us freeloaders when it came to the television license. This man gets a whopping 150k a year -for a measly 4 years service in the dail,which begs the question how many other ministers are availing of overblown pensions like these and under what wafer thin conditions? If we are to talk about people taking cuts,surley ministers pensions should be also laid out on the table,like nurses pay,teachers pay and garda pay and those on the state pension and welfare. read full story / add a comment

Despite the multiple cover-ups between the Garda Commissioner and the Justice Minister there still lingers an undercurrent of malpractice and deceit, which could only be resolved with an independent investigation. Lurking beneath the surface there appears to be dishonesty and cover-up and some within the Garda organisation are of the view that the Garda Commissioner should stand aside rather than be pushed later. read full story / add a comment

On Thursday 20/6/13 a number of Protestors attended the Dail in Kildare Street to repeat their claims of widespread criminal wrongdoing and corruption within the Garda Siochana (police) and Legal System in Ireland. The Protestors met with members of the Dail (Parliament) who promised to do something about the shocking stories they heard. In addition many lay people enquired as to the reason for the protest and were largely shocked by the stories told. read full story / add a comment

On Thursday 30/5/13 a number to protestors attended the Dail in Kildare Street to repeat their claims of widespread criminal wrongdoing and corruption within the Garda Siochana (police). The recent Wallace Shatter story was overshadowed by the stories of those people protesting for justice in their cases. The majority of the protestors have been protesting for years and have indisputable evidence of criminal wrongdoing against them. read full story / add a comment

Should we abolish TDs' immunity from arrest (if coming to/from Dail)? Article 15.13 "The members of each House of the Oireachtas shall, except in case of treason as defined in this Constitution, felony or breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest in going to and returning from, and while within the precincts of, either House, and shall not, in respect of any utterance in either House, be amenable to any court or any authority other than the House itself." read full story / add a comment

SPANISH chef lost his sense of taste and had his skull reinforced with screws after being struck with a golf club and wooden samurai sword in a savage street assault. Jorge Roca (40), from Valencia in Spain, insisted he still loves Ireland and Cork despite the unprovoked attack that left him fighting for his life. Shane Cotter (20) of Annmount Cross, Friars Walk, Cork, who has 49 previous convictions, was jailed for three years for assault causing serious harm. ''Danny O'Brien (20) of Brandon Court, Dillons Cross, Cork, who produced the golf club used by Cotter to attack Mr Roca and who has 84 previous convictions, was jailed for 18 months for violent disorder. The Spaniard told the Irish Independent he was disappointed with the sentences. "I am not a judge. I am a chef. But that was not really very good," he said. do we remember some years ago. a African youth who with his friends was out playing football. if my mind recall it was during the Easter holidays. some years ago. today in Dublin the jury gave its verdict into the murder of this youth. we cant afford to be smug and sit back and say what can we do about it. becoming full with apathy. we cant afford to remain indifferent. with attitude it doesn't affect me. ''A deaf man has apologised for the death of a man who was hit by a bus following an alleged roadside altercation, a court has heard. Edward Connors, who is profoundly deaf, has been charged with the manslaughter of Eoghan Dudley. The 28-year-old died last Thursday evening after suffering severe head injuries in the incident in Dublin city centre. Connors, 29, who has been living in a homeless hostel in Dublin, was brought before the city's District Court where proceedings were translated through a sign language interpreter. Cahir O'Higgins, defending, requested that his client have an interpreter present when booked in to prison. He told the judge that Connors also relied on a methadone prescription and asked that all medical assistance be given to him in prison. No application was made for bail.
