The Oslo District Court returned a verdict this week finding Anders Behring Breivik guilty of murder over the twin July 2011 terrorist attacks in Norway that led to 77 deaths . The Islamophobe killer was found to be sane at the time of the attacks and sentenced to twenty-one years in prison . Jordan Shilton argues in WSWS today that the political establishment’s attempt to portray the killer as an insane “lone wolf” was part of a cover-up that started on the day the fascist was arrested. read full story / add a comment

Reminds me of how Andreas Baader committed suicide in his prison cell by shooting himself in the back of the head. Full text at link. A 21-year old man was fatally shot in the head while handcuffed in the back of a police car in Arkansas. The police claim it was a suicide but victim's family has a hard time believing it. Chavis Carter was arrested by two officers for carrying marijuana, after being detained at a traffic stop last Saturday. The officers say they searched him twice before placing him in the back of a police car wearing “double locked” handcuffs. Carter allegedly called his girlfriend while at the traffic stop, telling her he’d call later from jail. But shortly thereafter, the young man was found slumped over in the back of the police car with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The officers claim they were nowhere near the car when the gun was fired. read full story / add a comment

On Monday 18th June 2012, a group representing some of the bereaved Omagh families presented Northern Ireland Secretary of State Owen Patterson with a specially commissioned report claiming that the atrocity could have been prevented by both governments. After the meeting, a spokesperson for the families in a delicately veiled threat called on both governments to respond positively or face a court challenge. The relatives also told the waiting media “we have brought together all available evidence on the case and showed where the authorities on both sides of the border could have prevented the bomb attack on Omagh.” The report was commissioned from a group of London-based-consultants and is said to contain ‘fresh information’ on the Omagh bombing. There are some issues surrounding the report that are questionable and it would be in the public interest to know exactly who financed the commissioning of the report. read full story / add a comment

On Wednesday 11th July 2012 further truths were revealed regarding endemic corruption in the planning process. The Mahon tribunal revelations were only the tip of the iceberg and did nothing to resolve some serious issues. Minister Phil Hogan has a lot of work to do to clean up the planning process. in fact the minister for justice will also need to make sweeping changes too. read full story / add a comment

The media/gov and industry are not telling people that, in fact, fracking is a major 12 county national issue. This would result in rural Ireland being industrialised by the fracking industry and all the dangers and risks that come with this process. This is also a huge cross-border issue, the same company that wish to frack in the north-west, want to begin operations in Fermanagh. Fermanagh is where the anti-fracking campaign will win or lose in Ireland. Everyone on this island has a vested interest in ensuring that fracking does not proceed in Fermanagh. Well known crime journalist Paul Williams met with Kevin Tracey at Government Buildings today while the Dail debated for the last day the outfall of the Mahon Tribunal Report regarding corruption surrounding planning and involving high profile politicians such as ex Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Padraig Flynn. What still needs to be addressed is the unlawful stripping of a full legal planning permission from Kevin Tracey in Dublin. Not only was his legal planning permission taken away from him but he was severely and cruelly punished for standing up for his rights to retain it and build his new house. read full story / add a comment

The Mahon Tribunal Report exposes endemic corruption in public life which was very evident for many years. Bertie Ahern had to deal with corruption surrounding the Charles Haughey era and now Micheal Martin has to deal with the corruption surrounding the Bertie Ahern era. The question is - is Micheal Martin going to break the systemic line of corruption or will the next leader of FF be dealing with his corruption? The most disturbing endemic corruption in this country is what happens to hundreds of people sucked into the legal system and it needs to be dealt with immediately. It is far more important as peoples lives are being detroyed. No ones life has been detroyed or will be destroyed with regard to the Mahon Report Corruption. read full story / add a comment

As new details emerge which show that eight armed undercover British soldiers were targeting Sam Marshall at the time of his death in March 1990, a book to be launched this week will reveal further details. The murdered man's relatives say , "As a result of information and facts concerning Sam’s killing which we have discovered in recent times, we are now convinced that members of British state forces, including British military intelligence and the Special Branch, were directly involved in the planning and commission of his murder. Congratulations to Ian Bailey who eventually scored a victory in the Supreme Court yesterday, ultimately at a huge cost to the State. The questin is what will happen to the perpetrators of the frame up of Ian Bailey, particularly the Gardai. Surely this frame up can not become another cover up. We Need To Be the Change that we want, we can complain all day long but that will achieve nothing, we need to take direct action against these bullies, these criminals, if we are too scared to do it for ourselves then we should do it for our children, any parent worth their salt would do whatever it takes to protect their child and that is exactly how we need to see this situation, what are we doing to protect our kids from what is being taken from them now and what will be increasingly taken from them as they grow up? read full story / add a comment

Kevin Tracey is recuperating from an illness and while he is ill four national newspapers have taken a motion to have his libel case against them struck out. The reasons given by them which are all too common is striking out bona fide cases are that his case is unsustainable, bound to fail and/or frivolous or vexatious. There is no ground taken by them that Kevin Tracey’s case be struck out for “want of prosecution”, due to inactivity on the case due to his illness. This was the previous ground used for striking out six other cases taken by Kevin Tracey for damages against the State where it had been proven that Kevin Tracey had been wrongfully and maliciously prosecuted.

What baffles me about the current controversies over undercover policing in Britain is that what would be considered a serious breach of policing ethics over there would be considered mild in terms of British policing over here. Two stories came together this week to illustrate the point: allegations that an undercover cop in Reclaim the Streets organisations lied in court to protect his identity coincided with far more serious allegations regarding collusion on Monday's BBC Spotlight. All the while, politicians who ignore what the RUC did in the North are still asking Gerry Adams to condemn (again) the killing of Garda Gerry McCabe; they seem to think there were only a handful of victims in the conflict and they were all killed by the IRA. read full story / add a comment |
