The only thing preventing Israeli officials from jumping up and down with glee, according Aluf Benn of the daily Haaretz newspaper, was the fear that "demonstrated Israeli enthusiasm for the draft could influence support among Security Council members, who could demand a change in wording that may adversely affect Israel." So no celebration parties till the resolution is passed.

"Mass clearances during the Irish Famine were made possible by the landlords' use of the infamous bailiffs - The Crowbar Brigade. Their actions combined with the presence of police were likely to quell any thought of serious resistance by tenants / indigenous people who 'must be taught by the strong arm of the law that they have no power to oppose or resist'." http://www.nde.state.ne.us/SS/irish/unit_3.html

Well, is that right?

Limerick County Council brought in their own Cro-bar Construction Brigade accompanied by An Garda Síochána again this morning in a staged attempt to push the polluted River Deel water pipeline past the 'white line', which was held again this morning by local residents, mostly women, including Orla Kaiser's mother Joan Hayes and Tom Clarke's wife Breda Clarke. Joan and Breda showed no fear in a powerful statement to Gardaí, Limerick County Council and national media, saying they are prepared to go jail if necessary, with Orla, to defend their rights and their Spring Water. read full story / add a comment

The Bleach Lough Spring Water Retention Group want to stay connected to the lake which has provided them with spring water for more than 50 years. Limerick Co Council want to divert them to a water supply from the polluted River Deel.

Last Thursday 1st June, Limerick Co. Council obtained a high court injunction against 7 local residents who have drawn a line in the road and are blocking this ‘new’ pipeline from crossing that line and coming any further. They will continue to walk the line from tomorrow Tuesday 6th June, when Co Council workers are expected to try and force their way through using the threat of this injunction.
