Here is the full text of Noel Dempsey's speech to the Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis, in which he explains that -

-Fianna Fáil had no idea that bankers, builders and developers were running wild with the possibilities of the unregulated economy.

-If they had known about the corruption and endemic and dishonesty, they would have done something about it, but just because these people were funding their election campaigns, playing golf with them, loaning them their holiday homes etc, does not mean that they were aware of where the money was coming from.

-It could be much worse.

-It will get worse.

Ive been an operator in the industry for 8yrs now on a full time basis.I obtained my taxi as a consequence of deregulation.Prior to that my interest in entering the industry was dampened by two facts 1.It was not possible to apply for a spsv test application if already in employment and 2.The extortionate price put on a privately sold spsv licence(IR65,000)at the time.

Peter Tatchell writes on the need for principled solidarity with Iran: Support the People of Iran against US Imperialism. But also against the Theocratic Regime. Full text at link.

Principled, consistent left-wingers do not base their politics on the unprincipled, inconsistent geo-political manoeuvres of western powers. We stand with the oppressed against their oppressors, regardless of what the west (or anyone else) demands or threatens. US sabre-rattling against Iran is worrying. A military attack must be resisted. However, opposition to Washington’s war-mongering and neo-imperial designs is no reason for socialists, greens and other progressives to go soft on Tehran. read full story / add a comment

Contributors include Dr. Gary Boyd, Ciarán Cuffe TD, Robert Ballagh and Siobhain Ní Éanaigh. The majority of the speakers were very critical of Celtic Tiger Ireland, a change from previous "architectural discussion". The talk happened in Docklands "white elephant", CHQ, aka: Stack A.

Sunday August 10 2008 was the day of the discussion, day after the worst rainfall that Ireland had ever seen in the month of august, a wake up call if ever there was one of how we have to adress climate chaos...http://radio.indymedia.org/es/node/17169

The recent change in Irish society from `get rich quick' to working class struggle has been unprecedented. The economy is sinking fast and the predictions are that things can only get worse. European Commission president José Manuel Barroso has made the point that Ireland would be in the same situation as Iceland if it were not in the euro zone. But maybe even this cannot save the country from plunging into bankruptcy, as banks and businesses collapse and unemployment soars.

Amnesty's report on weapons used by both sides in Gaza finds much to condemn.

http://www.amnesty.org/en/library/asset/MDE15/012/2009/....html

The group is particularly hard on the U.S., having found numerous remains of American munitions -- including white phosphorus shells from Pine Bluff Arsenal, and a Hellfire missile made in Orlando.

Another weapon which bothers Amnesty is a mysterious munition, filled with cubic particles.

This type of ultra-precise strike capability is supposed to limit collateral damage and civilian casualties.

So we turn once again to Garlasco's comment, from an earlier conflict:

"It is unfortunate that these weapons are being developed specifically for use in densely populated areas which may negate the intended effect." read full story / add a comment
