Irish People: Protest To Iranian and Turkish Embassies Now! The people of Kurdistan in the frontier region of Iran, Turkey and Iraq have been under the Iranian artillery fire and the Turkish jet fighters’ attacks during the past month, on the pretext of fighting the armed forces of two organisations: PKK and Pejak. This is just a part of the atrocities of the governments, armed forces, and terrorist gangs operating in Iraq and pursuing its own reactionary aims. Up until now, the Iraqi government and Kurdistan Regional Government have not reacted to these crimes against people. This silence is due to the reactionary nature of these governments, their etnic-religious composition, and their wheelings and dealings with the regimes of Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc. The people of Iraqi Kurdistan are in a tight corner of repression and crime caused by the governments of Iran, Turkey, Iraq and the U.S on one hand and nationalist, reactionary, and ethnic forces as Pejak or PKK on the other – whose aim is only to gain a share of power. The people are victims of power struggles among these reactionary forces. A vigorous defence of the people of Iraqi Kurdistan is an urgent task of freedom-loving people, a civilised world, and socialism. |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5 6gee, funny how anti turkish sentiment has suddenly bloomed all over the internet when they reject the killing by Israel of their citizens who were taking part in the peace flotilla to gaza, and they start taking concrete diplomatic actions against Israel.
I guess the soldiers of internet hasbara have got orders to retaliate. Turkey is no angel and This stuff has been going on for ages with not a squeak from the media. Now suddenly it's household news. Hmmm....
This article condemns attacks on the Kurdish People by both Turkey and Iran. I doubt very much if you support the shelling of Kurdish areas.
Take a broader view of things: Israeli occupation of Palestine is wrong. Israeli shelling and airstrikes against Gaza is wrong. The Palestinians are entitled to self determination.
By the same logic: Turkish & Iranian shelling and airstrikes against the Kurd lands is wrong. The Kurds are entitled to self determination.
The WPI opposes Zionism:
The Crimes of the Fascist Regime of Israel against People of Gaza should be Condemned!
The attack of Israeli commandos on the ships that were carrying peace activists and aid to the people of Gaza evoked anger and hatred in humanitarian and progressive people of the world. The attack took place in international waters without any notice; according to some sources at least ten people and according to other sources some twenty people lost their lives and several got wounded due to this attack. This is an obvious and atrocious crime that is not only in contrast with the most basic humanitarian and civilized standards, but also overtly violates international laws and regulations; every political party, movement, state, and international organization that claims to be defending basic human rights should openly and strongly condemn this attack. People of the world and left-wing and progressive political organizations should pressure governments and international institutions in all countries to build up pressure on and condemning the Israeli government that has committed such atrocious crimes against the Palestinian people several times. The world should not tolerate such a crime.

I posted the latest article on Indy re the Turkish reaction to Israel. I also posted the above article on the Kurds.
Serf, I am with you on opposition to Zionism but you are seriously out of order here ("gee, funny how anti turkish sentiment has suddenly bloomed all over the internet when they reject the killing by Israel of their citizens who were taking part in the peace flotilla to gaza, and they start taking concrete diplomatic actions against Israel. I guess the soldiers of internet hasbara have got orders to retaliate. Turkey is no angel and This stuff has been going on for ages with not a squeak from the media. Now suddenly it's household news. The Kurdish comrades who are raising the issue of their right to self-determination and the attacks on that by the Turkish and Iranian regimes have been doing so for a long time, whether you are aware of it or not. I have been on demonstrations and pickets with them on a few occasions and they were picketing the EU offices in Dublin nearly two months ago. I was with them recently when we held a protest in O'Connell St. and then went to the Turkish Embassy. There were no Israelis there -- all Kurds, alas, and one Irishman. And there IS a conspiracy at play here -- one of media silence, for there has hardly been any mainstream media coverage of the Turkish and Iranian (yes, despite the Western paranoia about Iran!) attacks on the Kurds.
It is true that the West used the 'Iraqi' Kurds against Saddam's regime when it suited them (after allowing him to gas a whole Kurdish village when he was their ally, and keeping the media quiet about it, until they fell out with him later). The Kurds in 'Turkey' have been under left-wing leadership for decades and have never been championed by the West, nor are they now. Some months back I published here in Indymedia a report on mass graves of Kurds now being unearthed in "Turkey".
The Kurds are probably the largest oppressed ethnic group in the world, estimated by Wikipedia at 30-37 million, 2 million only of which are in diaspora. This means that a population of 30-35 million of an oppressed ethnicity straddle Turkey (where 20% are estimated to live), Iran, Syria and Iraq. This is an area of enormous strategic importance, not to mention resources such as oil and water -- it is not to expected that any of the regimes involved, nor NATO nor Russia want to see an independent Kurdistan. The Kurds deserve our solidarity and I hope they receive it and that we will not stay silent just because an extremely reactionary and NATO regime of Turkey has developed a contradiction for a while with the also extremely reactionary Israeli regime.
I was not referring to the websites of, or the genuine and laudable efforts of, campaigners for the rights of kurdish people whose work has been constant all along.
I was referring to the sudden bloom of zionist powered attention given to this topic in the media and in pro israeli sites and internet posts where previously they didn't give a crap about the issue when turkey was a military ally of Israel.
I apologise for any confusion. Glad to know this particular article is not actually part of that retaliatory effort to discredit turkey because they supported the flotilla and took concrete action against Israel over it. And no of course I don't support attacks on the kurds. However I still believe my comment is still somewhat valid, even if it does not apply to this particular article. Its rather coincidental appearance just after the media announcements about turkey taking action against Israel was what made me believe it might be part of the zionist backlash against turkey.
A few years ago Shimon Peres was in London and spoke at Westminister Hall
-he advocated the admission of Turkey to the EU - and peace with the Kurds !
shimon peres said a lot of things he never really meant
talk is cheap.
Everyone, especially politicians say they want world peace. But you have to examine their concrete actions to understand what is really going on.
