London Police use a _non-lethal_ weapon in response. British Police yesterday launched a review of security after an intruder armed with a machete stormed the headquarters of MI5 and the Northern Ireland Office, wounding two security guards. This is the first attack on the offices of British Inteligence since September 20 1999 when someone blew a section off Vauxhall Cross the home of SIS better known to most as MI6 with two portable air to surface missiles. |

Jump To Comment: 1Electric stun guns are to be authorised for police firearms officers across England and Wales following a successful trial, it has been announced.
Home Secretary David Blunkett said scientific evaluations had shown the Taser guns had a "very low" risk of fatality.
The American-manufactured weapons have been under controlled testing by five police forces since April last year as a less lethal alternative to conventional firearms.
The above story was the third occasion they had been used in London.
Mr Blunkett said: "In the light of results of the trial, I have authorised chief officers throughout England and Wales to deploy Taser for use in the same strictly limited circumstances.
"Chief officers can now make the M26 Taser available to authorised firearms officers in their force as a less lethal alternative for use in situations where a firearms authority has been granted."
Mr Blunkett said the Defence Scientific Advisory Council Sub Committee on the Medical Implications of Less Lethal Weapons had confirmed the risk of death from the M26 Taser was "very low".
The Taser guns fire needle-tipped darts up to 21 feet to deliver a disabling. high-voltage shock.
Manufactured by Arizona-based Taser International, the weapons are designed to temporarily stun suspects so they can be arrested.
