Galway showing of 'inside the coup'

Imperial Hotel, Wednesday, 7th March

The Galway branch of the Socialist party will show the documentary 'the revolution will not be televised' / 'inside the coup', an account of the attempted CIA spponsored overthrow of Hugo Chavez's Bolivarian government. The showing will be ollowed by a discussion on the present situation in Latin America.

Admission is free.

1. This isn't a commercial movie, it's a documentary made for RTE.

2. The guy who made it always seemed very nice and accomodating regarding people showing it whenever I met him.

But aside from all that, film showings like this happen every day around the country. Any time an unimaginative member of a college society, trade union, community group, political party, whatever type of club, etc etc wants to organise an event, they'll inevitably go for a screening. It's cheap and easy, the lowest common denominator of publicity events. There's at least 3 on this week in my college.

But doesn't it say something about public showings being prohibited at the start of a rental dvd? Watching it at home with your mates is hardly the same as having a public screening in a rented room.

Or do you announce on indymedia everytime when you are going to rent a movie?
