Raids & Detentions in Co. Tyrone

category tyrone | miscellaneous | press release author Friday February 06, 2009 15:04author by Richard Walsh - Republican Sinn Féinauthor email tiocfaidh at btinternet dot comauthor phone +44-7835 620 592 / +353-87 261 8603 Report this post to the editors

A number of houses were raided in the Dungannon and Donaghmore areas of County Tyrone over the past few days.

A number of houses were raided in the Dungannon and Donaghmore areas of County Tyrone over the past few days. A total of five houses were entered by the RUC over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday. In one case linoleum was lifted up from the floors.

A total of six known Republicans were removed to the so-called “Serious Crime Suite”m at Antrim Barracks. Despite the apparent urgency with which the raids and detentions took place, the Republicans were interrogated only twice, and it was clear to them that the entire operation was merely for show. All were released within twenty-four hours.

Yet again such raids and detentions come in the immediate aftermath of comments made by Gerry Adams. The self-confessed informer told the “Stephen Nolan Show” that people have a duty to give information to the RUC on known Republicans. True Republicans, however, do not classify this as a civic duty but as treason.

This belief that Gerry has been and continues to be a British agent remains an unproven allegation. The leader of the provisional republican movement has said on many occasions that he had never been a member of the I.R.A. let alone a member of the army council. Gerry has led his people from a committed republican platform in opposition to British rule in Ireland to become the architect of republicans enforcing British rule in Ireland. Gerry loves the "dissident" republicans, if they did not exist they either he or Mi5 would have to invent them. Gerry enjoys his role as a statesman of peace. A British agent, surely not?
