Over 10 000 protest against Israeli participation in the Davis cup being hosted in Malmo Sweden On Saturday (07.03.09) over 10 000 protesters gathered to protest the Israeli Sweden tennis match as part of the Davis cup tournament. Many feel that a boicott of Israel is the only way to get the military state to cease its brutal occupation of the remnants of Palestine. |

Many Swedish Jews are living in fear of anti-Semitic attacks (as are Jews throughout Europe) at present.
Great to hear that 10,000 managed to demonstrate in Malmo about this, since I can't imagine Malmo to be such a huge place. Needless to say, the demo wasn't anti-Jewish but anti-apartheid and pro-justice in Israel/Palestine, and I'd be surprised if there weren't a Jewish contingent there, as at similar demos across Europe. To characterise European Jews as living in mortal terror at antisemitism is so far off the mark that it makes one wonder which planet, never mind which continent the previous commentator lives on.
I was very pleased to read of the protest and large turn-out of protesters. I agree it is time that we in Europe stop having 'normal' relations with Israel until it behaves 'normally' with its neighbours and ceases to oppress the occupied refugees of Gaza and Palestine and racially discriminate against its own Arab minority. To carry on as 'normal' after the Israeli war crimes and human right abuses of January would be a deriliction of moral duty. The first comment appeals to fear-mongering and attempts to perpretrate a false victim mentality which won't help the situation and further promotes prejudice.

The answer to your question is Planet Zion or as it has come to be known with a deep sense of trepidation among it's neighbours, Israel. Since it's inception Israel has had a dual strategy of constant violent provocation of all neighbours in order to foment continuous war on it's borders and similtaneoulsy to instill fear in Jewish communities around the world in order to maintian a constant sense of fear.
The product is a propaganda picture which can be brandished to give the appearance that Israel is at war because its the Jewish State or interchangably that the Jews are in danger beacause of the war against the Jewish State. Either way the strategy relies on convincing the world that Israel is not a violent colonialist entity but rather represents the outlook of a fearful Jewish people. If it works on Non-Jewish people then it encourages Anti-semitism which is helpful for Israel, when it works on Jews it encourages Aliyah, which is also helpful for Israel.
It is a continuous theme in Israeli newspapers , the most shameless example appearing only a few days ago in Ynet News.: " Can Jews live in Europe? "

The level of destructive self-delusion among Israeli and US Jewish Zionists seem to have reached an all-time high. Noam Chomsky responds to the work of John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt and argues against the idea that a lobby of pro-Israel interests effectively controls US foreign policy.
Their book The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy claims that the lobby leads the US into acting against its national interest, and that the Iraq war was a result of the lobby's influence.
The fact that such a lobby exists is not what is being doubted by Chomsky.
How much power it has to influence the US to carry out policies that are not in the interest of the US is the question he poses.
The fact that Obama and the US, if they try to adopt even a remotely neutral stance (their own insatiable thirst for oil aside, of course) on ME issues, are still curtailed by a barking mob of pro-Israel zealots is not a matter for debate.

I'm not quite sure what the writer is getting at here, but I think they misunderstand the situation in Sweden.
The leader of the leader of the social democrats in Sweden recently took part in a demonstation where Hizbola and Hamas flags were flying. Can you imagine the international outcry if the leader of social democratic parties in Italy, Germany or France did the same thing? Or Gordon Brown in the UK?
Can you imagine how Swedish jews feel?
This lack of understanding from the historicaly most powerful party in sweden ( even though they are not in power at the moment) is extreamly worrying - even to "the jewish contigent" who are critical of israel's action in Gaza
