Among those who spoke was Jim Lane, himself a lifelong activist, who is the father of Dr. Fintan Lane. Today's protest was organised by the Cork Branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign and supported by a broad range of groups including the Workers Party, Sinn Féin, the Socialist Party, Socialist Workers Party, Workers Solidarity movement, Cork Council of Trade Unions and many other groups and individuals.

Many of those who spoke referred to local activist Dr. Fintan Lane who was on board one of the ships which was close to the one which was attacked. Speakers praised Fintan for his work over many years and expressed concern on his behalf and on behalf of the other Irish and international activists.
