Cork people find it "cool" that another pirate should also visit their shores.

UCC Students today organised a protest against the arrival of Alastair Campbell to their campus. The UCC Philsophical Society and the UCC Entrepreneurial & Social society had organised the visit of Mr. Campbell for this morning (the 9th February) to recieve an honorary award and to deliver a speech.

However, in their promotional campaign and literature no mention of Campbell's complicit role in creating the (falsified) conditions for the Iraq war was mentioned. Instead, only his standing as a skilled orator and his business acumen was noted, as well as the fact he was coming to sign his new book.

As students in an enlightened environment of learning and social critique we see it as necessary to challenge those who fail to be challeneged by others. In the spirit of that nature we decided to correct the flawed promotional literature by the UCC Philosoph and E&S society and have provided it for you below. Over 300 copies were distributed to UCC students and members of the public,. A copy was also supplied to Mr. Campbell.

We stand vehemently opposed to the lowering of standards within our university - to let those with such horrible records such as Alastair Campbell to freely recieve awards in our name. We see this as just the latest cynical attempt by those within the Philosoph and E&S societies to "raise their profiles" regardless of any wider implications outside of their own narrow interests.

No apologists for mass murder and illegal war on campus!
