---Corrib project has been imposed through 'harassment' of the local community--- 409 letters have been delivered from members of the community of Kilcommon to Shell's Belmullet offices today Monday. The letter outlines their refusal to meet with representatives of the company while Pat O'Donnell remains in jail and the imposition of the Corrib gas project continues without community consent. The letters detail a large number of grievances that the local community have with the imposition of the project, and state that people are refusing to meet with Shell while what “effectively amounts to ongoing and escalating physical and psychological harassement” continues in the area. The letters dismiss as hollow Shell's proposed 'consultation', in the context of the fact that the current and previous Managing Directors of the company have publicly stated that the project will not be changed in any way in response to community concerns. ... read full story / add a comment

“We the undersigned 50 Primary school principals condemn and refuse to partake in the Irish Independent’s “Building for the Future” scheme being launched this week. We abhor the quota of 20 tokens per pupil from Independent Newspapers required of all schools wishing to submit a project for this sponsored competition. Independent Newspapers while posturing as benefactors are, in reality, seeking to exploit schools, boost sales and make life uncomfortable for children whose parents do not buy the sponsors newspapers. An Bord Pleanála Board has overruled its own Inspectors and given the go ahead for a high voltage power line to run through South and West Donegal. This ESB Networks and Eirgrid project is not, as they maintain, to supplement the energy needs of County Donegal but rather to facilitate wind energy developers in their rush to profit at the expense of people in Donegal and their environmental heritage. national / eu / press release Wednesday September 30, 2009 - 23:00 by Fiachra Ó Luain
PRESS RELEASE - 30th September 2009 There has been a formal call for the OSCE to oversee the Irish Lisbon referendum amid growing concerns that the result of the Irish referendum may be manipulated by postal vote fraud. A source within the Dublin City Council has informed the former MEP candidate Fiachra Ó Luain of efforts by the head of the Franchise department to actively register residents of retirement homes, prisons and even the army. The source has said that the head of the Franchise department has unsupervised and unregulated access to the postal votes and suggests that there may be concerted efforts to influence the outcome of the Lisbon referendum by manipulation of the postal vote system. This corroborates the fact that the ‘People’s Movement’, who are calling for a No vote, received notice from various county councils of the issue of postal votes the day after they had been sent out. ... read full story / add a comment

Former MEP, Patricia McKenna has accussed the EU Commission head, Barroso of illegal interference in Irish referendum, she said "its conveniently opportune that less than two weeks before Irish people vote on the Lisbon treaty the Commission announces that it proposes to give €15m in aid to help former Dell computer workers find new jobs. , Barroso is head of the EU Institution that will gain most power if the treaty is ratified, he should stay out of the debate and respect the existing EU treaties until such time as they are changed”. He is abusing his position and this it quite unacceptable in a supposedly free and democratic society.” ... read full story / add a comment |
