SHOULD nationalists accept once and or all that unionists have the right to have their own identity and culture and to celebrate their own festivals, then calls for "calm" over the Twelfth period would be unnecessary. Any difficulties experienced can be blamed on the immaturity and bigotry of those who cannot abide anything that does not pay homage to Irish nationalism. read full story / add a comment

What has been going on in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian West Bank and Gaza Strip is not only overtly tragic and deadly by all counts but is covertly an embodiment of Israel`s unique "democracy". Thanks to this unprecedented democracy, the entire Palestinian territories have been converted into a big prison where the sufferings of the Palestinian people are unbearable. read full story / add a comment

It is a testimony to this campaign that the government has changed the law of the land in their latest attempt to defeat it. This recent report outlines the reality of the plight of Palestinian prisoners. The draconian measures Israel is perpetrating make any comparison with British internment of Irish activists tragically laughable. The media is currently holding the line that Israel is making serious concessions by contemplating releasing a small number of prisoners. Reports by Amnesty and Stop the Torture shed light on the list of human rights abuses Israel has been carrying out for decades and which have led to the recent Intifada. IF someone changes the name of a nationality to make it fit better into a slogan (eg: from Pakistani to Paki) is this an indication of racism? Most of us would agree. If someone wants to get foreigners to leave this country, if they commit violent acts against foreign nationals in an attempt to make them leave, is this an indication of racism? Again, most of us would agree. read full story / add a comment |
