In light of the scandal of sexual abuse of children and subsequent cover-up that continues daily to haunt the Catholic Church, this reflection looks at what what living out the true message of Christianity looks like, not a Christianity that hangs on to the survival of an institution corrupted by wealth, power and status, temptations which Jesus rejected in the desert but ultimately have gotten the better of men's hearts who pose as pillars of Christian morality. Perhaps the time for talking about a renewal of the Church should stop and some of that renewal starts now...getting back to teaching and doing the basics..taking courage from the early Christians and those who have faithfully and humbly tried in the modern time to live out this new concept of living as taught and lived by Jesus. read full story / add a comment

The fascist English Defence League (EDL) suffered a defeat in Bolton yesterday as plans for another demonstration intended to whip up racism in the local community and terrorise the town in the name of ‘anti-Islamic extremism’ were thwarted. In past demonstrations in Luton, Leeds and Stoke, the EDL have been able to terrorise black and Asian communities and gay districts. In Bolton the brave determination of anti-fascists protestors meant the EDL weren’t able to riot again, in the face of extreme police brutality.

The European Commission today issued Ireland with a final warning to provide its citizen with access to justice that is not ‘prohibitively expensive’. ‘There is no doubt whatsoever that the potential financial consequences of losing legal challenges is preventing NGOs and individuals from bringing cases against public bodies and so denying citizens their legal rights as Irish citizens.

Hi,

It was brought to our attention that 'Lara Boutique' was recently shown on an episode of TV3's 'Xpose'.

In the episode, real fur was casually shown and promoted - and the presenter, Glenda Gilson, even joked that "animal rights people wouldn't be happy".

I dropped into 'Lara Boutique' today to discuss a possible fur-free policy, but the manager was unwilling to talk about it, and was quite uptight and rude.

The shop doesn't currently have any real fur items, but this will not be a permanent status. I will be monitoring the situation, and will organise protests if I see any real fur in the shop.

Please contact them now, politely asking that they adopt a fur-free policy. It would also be beneficial to visit the shop to peacefully make a complaint in person. read full story / add a comment
