There were angry scenes both outside and inside City Hall this afternoon as councillors gathered to formally endorse the draft budget for 2012. A large number of protestors had gathered outside City Hall from about 3pm in order to meet councillors as they entered the building. read full story / add a comment

The Palestinians are poised to make their case to the UN . Statehood or observational status.the Palestinians are being provoked to retaliate against the continued expansion of Israel into their territories, The illegal Separation Wall wall runs through farms , bisecting Palestinian farms - sure he can travel a couple of miles to get to the other side of his farm . The Israelis are in continuous violation of UN mandates every day . Yet the Israelis have a vote at the General Assembly of the UN . They are now trying to block the Palestinians from any form of alliance with the UN . The General assembly will ratify Palestine as as an observer country . And now at last Palestine will have it within her grasp to demand the return of illegal land grasp taken during the 1967 war. read full story / add a comment

A public meeting has been called by residents and community activists who are unhappy about the household charge which will be introduced in January as part of the government’s austerity measures. The meeting, which will take place on Monday 3rd October at 7pm in Westside Community Centre is open to all and is aimed specifically at residents of Westside, Shantalla and Newcastle. The meeting is one of hundreds of similar gatherings that are taking place throughout the country. A national campaign of resistance to the household charge is being planned which will see hundreds of thousands of families boycott the new tax when it is introduced in January 2012. read full story / add a comment

The AFAR group has been contacted by various people expressing their disgust at the prospect of an animal abusing event in Galway. Are Donkey derbys not a relic of bygone days? This is the front page of the CURRENT Galway Independent. As part of a forthcoming "comedy" festival, radio presenter (Hector OhEochagáin) is publicising a Donkey Derby. AFAR is totally opposed to cruel spectacles especially in light of the increasing number of horse and equine cases that have come to light.animal violations are increasing at an alarming rate as any one will confirm who is involved in animal protection. The first ever Galway Community Picnic will take place this Saturday the 9th July at 2pm to coincide with the visit of the IM, EU and ECB to Ireland. Open to all, the picnic will have an inclusive and family friendly atmosphere with activities and entertainment for adults and children.
